I’m Marco Angelo, a new writer. So far, I have published 1 short story in a horror anthology and received 2 honorable mentions from Elegant Literature’s monthly fiction writing competitions.
I’m a remote software engineer based in Orlando, Florida with my cat named Soysoy (or 翠翠, “Cuicui,” for Mandarin speakers out there!). When I’m not at my day job, I like to write, travel, try out new restaurants & cuisines, network with other writers, and train Muay Thai.
I like to write historical fiction with twists of horror and magical realism. The themes I usually explore revolve around trauma suppression, individuality vs. collectivism, navigating abusive relationships, cultural assimilation & identity, the fragility of human sanity, and the violation of one’s own ethics & moral principles in the face of survival.
Ultimately, I write to learn more about myself and the world around me. Once I have the curiosity to understand a topic more deeply (whether that be a historical period, a scientific inquiry, a specific question about my own values, etc.), I do my best to weave a story from those questions.
Storytelling, to me, is the best method for learning. Through its nature alone, knowing how to craft a story that is both logically consistent and emotionally compelling automatically grants me deep immersion. It is the means by which to expand both my knowledge and creativity.
